Karen Huges

Karen Hughes has a career that spans over 40 years in tourism and hospitality and is known for her “people first” management style. She started as a retail travel agent with AAA and American Express and went on to hold senior management positions with tour operator Pleasant Holidays. She spent nearly 16 years with Starwood Hotels and Resorts overseeing sales, marketing and revenue management for Starwood’s eight Hawaii resorts, plus three resorts in Tahiti. Karen concluded her Starwood career at the brand’s global headquarters serving as vice president of global leisure sales and distribution where she was responsible for leading leisure revenue growth in third party channels for a portfolio of 1,000 properties across 8 brands in 70 countries. Most recently, Karen held leadership roles with Hawaii’s department of tourism, including vice president of Meet Hawaii and Travel Industry Partnerships for Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau, and vice president of marketing for Hawaii Tourism Authority.

Today, Karen can be found in Virginia contributing to a few select industry projects, cooking gourmet meals and spending time roaming the thoroughbred horse farm she lives on with her husband Steve.
